Sedation Dentistry
for Anxious Patients
Dental anxiety shouldn't stop you from getting the care you need. We offer options to help you feel genuinely relaxed — so you can get through treatment comfortably and confidently.
About Sedation Dentistry
Dental anxiety is one of the most common reasons people avoid dental care — and it's completely understandable. Whether you've had a difficult experience in the past, have a sensitive gag reflex, or simply dread the idea of dental treatment, sedation dentistry can transform your experience.
At West 17th Avenue Dental Care, we take anxiety seriously and create a calm, judgment-free environment. We offer sedation options suited to different levels of anxiety, and our team always moves at your pace — never rushing or dismissing your concerns.
What to Expect
Consultation
We review your medical history, discuss your anxiety triggers, and recommend the most appropriate sedation option for your needs.
Sedation Administration
Depending on the chosen option, sedation is administered before or during treatment. You remain conscious but deeply relaxed.
Treatment
With anxiety managed, we can often complete more treatment in fewer appointments — reducing the total number of visits needed.
Recovery
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes. Oral sedation patients need a responsible adult to drive them home.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sedation options do you offer?
We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which produces mild relaxation and wears off immediately, as well as oral sedation (a pill taken before your appointment) for patients with moderate to severe anxiety. We'll discuss which is most appropriate for you.
Will I be unconscious?
No. Both nitrous oxide and oral sedation are conscious sedation — you remain awake and can communicate, but feel deeply relaxed and may have little memory of the procedure afterward.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes, when administered by trained professionals. We review your complete medical history before recommending any sedation and monitor your vitals throughout the procedure.
