When you come in for a dental exam at our Calgary clinic, our goal is to make you feel welcome, informed, and empowered about your oral health. Here’s everything you can expect and how to prepare for your visit with us.
Preparing for Your Dental Exam
We recommend bringing a valid government-issued ID, your insurance card (if you have one), a list of current medications, and any previous dental records or X-rays you may have. If you are eligible for coverage, please bring your CDCP or NIHB benefit card. Arriving about 10 minutes early gives you time to complete any necessary forms and register your parking at the front desk.
To make sure we address all your concerns, write down any questions you would like answered during your dental exam. You are welcome to bring a support person if that helps you feel more comfortable. If you experience dental anxiety, tell us, our team is here to provide understanding and solutions to help you feel at ease.
What Happens During Your Dental Exam?
Your dental exam will start with a warm welcome, a review of your medical and dental history, and a chance to ask or answer any initial questions. During the exam, we carefully check your teeth, gums, and bite. Digital X-rays are taken only when needed, to examine areas not visible to the eye, and always following Alberta guidelines.
We complete a professional cleaning, removing plaque and tartar while polishing your teeth. Every dental exam includes an oral cancer screening and a gum health check.
Understanding Digital X-rays and Oral Cancer Screening
Our clinic uses digital X-rays with low radiation that allow us to detect concerns in areas not visible during a visual exam. We take X-rays only when clinically necessary in accordance with Alberta guidelines. An oral cancer screening is also part of every dental exam, helping us check for any signs of concern as early as possible.
Your Personalized Care Plan and Answers to Your Questions
After the dental exam and cleaning, we take the time to explain everything we found, showing you any X-rays or photos if taken. We answer your questions without rushing or pressure, so you are equipped to make informed decisions about your oral health.
Your dentist will provide personalized home care advice and discuss all potential treatment options with you. If treatment is recommended, we’ll review and explain all your options so you can choose the plan that feels right for you.

Every new patient receives a complimentary whitening kit or electric toothbrush as a welcome gift after their first dental exam.
