Our dedicated dental team at West 17th Avenue Dental Care has experience to care for a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood. As parents ourselves, we understand the unique needs and concerns that children have when it comes to dental visits. We take pride in creating a friendly, gentle and comfortable atmosphere for our young patients because we believe that visiting the dentist can and should be an enjoyable experience.
Our team of dental providers aims to create trusting relationships with your child because we believe that the experiences your child has with their dentist at an early age impacts how they will view dental care as an adult. Studies show that children who have positive dental experiences tend to visit their dentist on a regular basis into adulthood. We encourage and promote early dental care and maintenance. That is why we offer all children under the age of three, a complementary “happy smile” check-up with our experienced dental team.
At West 17th Avenue Dental Care we are here to take care of the dental needs of your child, so call us today to set up a free “happy smile” or general visit!

Teeth Cleanings
Dental Hygiene is crucial for overall dental health and wellness. At West 17th Avenue Dental Care, that is why we recommend cleanings every six months, or as often as needed or recommended by your dentist, based on your specific dental needs. Some patients may require more frequent cleanings, while others may require more infrequent cleanings. The frequency will depend on several factors. Teeth that are susceptible to the accumulation of plaque and calculus, crowded teeth, or people with gum disease, will require more frequent visits and this may not match the frequency of the other members of your family. We evaluate each patient on an individual basis to determine the dental hygiene schedule that will meet your specific needs the best.
What is Included in your regular dental visit?
- A comprehensive periodontal examination, checking for gum recession, the presence of gingivitis and possible gum disease
- Polishing your teeth to remove hard surface stain
- Fluoride treatment which strengthens the enamel in areas that may be weak
- An extra-oral exam at least once a year to check the head, neck and jaw areas for abnormalities
- An oral cancer screening, with the use of the Velscope, to check the gum tissues, tongue, band lips for signs of oral cancer
